Believing we can't really 'miss' God's will for our lives (even though our sinful/selfish choices can lead us astray- but never too far from God's reach), I DO wonder if there are 2 paths we can choose from.
Sometimes, I see a nice, easy, quaint life ahead. A gazebo in the backyard, possibly beside a heated pool. My 4 children busy with soccer practice, volunteering and having friends over. A medium-size church we attend faithfully and are involved in tons of ministries.
But then, I look a bit farther, deeper, and see something radical. I see myself standing in one-room grass hut in Zambia, Uganda or Ghana. I can't quite see, even though I squint feverishly, if there is a man and children in the hut with me. I look tired, but extremely happy... have just been going around local villages finding children, adults, the elderly- sitting with them, laughing, learning to cook their food, offering them small bits of advice to make life easier for them (lift heavy objects this way, have the child play with these objects to help their hand strength, do these stretches to help your back pain... etc...). Going to church every week- with no walls, benches to sit on, and the most beautiful African music coming alongside the Word being preached.
And I wonder why I would ever choose the first option listed above... and pray that God will continue leading me where He would have me.

Beth- I must say you are a visionary and someone who sets out a plan. My and your generation has lost one of the greatest Christian ideals....being future minded. Sacrifice and loving others....that is what has been a key characteristic in your life. You definitely are a special delight to your family and others. Love, Dad
Bethany - I consider myself truly blessed to be your friend. You are so thoughtful and you are a wonderful example to me. I miss you all terribly - hope to see you soon! love -evie
Isaiah 49:16 - "Behold, I have graven thee on the palm of my hand."
Bethany, you are so beautiful. What a treasure God created in you! Everytime I see you/talk to you/read something from you.. I am changed and encouraged and admonished. This was EXACTLY what I needed to read this morning. The Lord uses you SO MUCH.
love you.
bethany.... you need to blog some more :)
